In the 2nd half of the program, we spoke with Kristy Dalechek, Founder of Fine Feather Health. She was a recipient of a $300 seed money prize from the Working Women Foundation and speaks on how she put it to use on the open of this segment which was to purchase a copy of QuickBooks. This foundation, Founded by Jessica Rivelli, works to empower female entrepreneurism through grants and networking opportunities as well as help grow their businesses.
Her interest in health and wellness began with her first official job in high school where she worked the front desk at a health club and learned to teach group fitness classes. After completing her Bachelors of Science in Finance, she worked as a financial advisor for a bank. After her third child, she decided that she no longer wanted to rule the financial world and wanted to save some small part. She obtained another Bachelor of Science degree, this time in nursing, and started working in the NICU at a St. Louis children’s hospital. From there she transitioned to the hospital’s critical care flight team and when her family relocated to Tampa, Florida, she began working for an insurance company as a Business Development Executive where her focus was a supplemental health insurance product that focused on employee wellness. She learned a lot about insurance and even more about the medical system. It was then that she saw the need to address chronic disease on a personal level and developed and launched Fine Feather Health. She is passionate about helping people discover their healthiest self and believes the key to success is in personal relationships and shared plans. Even the smallest action is a step in the right direction. As she states, “You can’t reach your goal unless you take the first step.”
Kristy talks about how her program takes a holistic approach to medical care which involves not only the treatment medically but also learning about the person “as a whole”. Much of her practice incorporates consulting/coaching to identify risk factors for their health and working to eliminate them. The business’s target markets are companies, insurance carriers and medical practices and they do not advertise directly to individuals, but can certainly work with individuals.
